Whatever Happened to Baby Daphne?

Baby Daphne was the "Hip"-py witch on KHJ- channel 9 with Patricia Blake as Baby Daphne the good witch. The opening of her show featured her (as a puppet) circling her cartoon castle. You might remember her yelling "Make-up!" and a giant powderpuff smacking her in the face.

She's seen here at the Hollywood Wax Museum, posing with one of the statues.

Hal Smith, the actor who played Otis the Drunk on The Andy Griffith Show also played The Pancake Man for The International House of Pancakes. Dressed in a white chefs uniform and a tall chefs hat, The Pancake Man entertained youngsters in the mid sixties. You can catch a glimpse of Hal Smith on The Brady Bunch in the episode where Bobby goes on the Cartoon King (Hal Smith) show for an ice cream eating contest.

Seen here as Otis.

(Pancake Man fans, Sorry, before I had this web site, I found a Pancake Man record and was persuaded not to buy it... now I will spend the rest of forever hunting that thing down again.)

 Candy's Playhouse

"My husband hand-carved my dolls," says Wible. "He passed away when he was 36. He was in manufacturing, and it was too stressful for him He made them out of sugar-pine wood, and my doll's called Candy Sugarpine. Isn't that adorable?"

Nancy Wible (like "bible") had the top rated children's show in L.A. from 1951-52 with her puppet Candy. She's worked on The Flintstones, Mr. Magoo, and was the voice of Gumby's mother.

Can you name Candy's doll from the playhouse?

(answer: "Sweetie")

Now can you tell me what channel Candy's Playhouse was on?
